Proof of Delusion

Does Olaf have good timing or what (referring to last night's post)? On the news this morning,
Evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday that God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would cause a "mass killing" late in 2007.

It's bad enough that allegedly "serious" news outlets like the AP and CNN give this idiot coverage, but they try to justify it in the following chickenshit way:

Robertson said God told him about the impending tragedy during a recent prayer retreat.

God also said, he claims, that major cities and possibly millions of people will be affected by the attack, which should take place sometime after September.

Note that they slip in "he claims" as though that rationalizes reporting the ravings of a lunatic. So let's apply a little trick that Sam Harris, author of The End of Faith and Letter to a Christian Nation suggests--insert the words "through his electric toothbrush" after "God said" or other similar utterances. Does that make it sound nutty? Then why does someone claiming that God speaks to him not sound nutty just because he doesn't specify the medium, particularly when God is allegedly speaking in particular dates, places, and numbers, as Robertson babbles.

I mean, if the AP and CNN want to quote Robertson, would it violate journalistic objectivity to refer to him as a religious fantasist (which is charitable at best) or ranting crazy fucker you'd best avoid?

I guess that's why I never made it as a journalist.

Oh my God. This is absolute fucking drivel. Why in hell are they printing that shit? That guy is a fucking nutcase. Or else he's real fucking smart and really sinister because he's making a ton of cash. Why the hell is CNN advertising this shit? All it will do is get fanatics in a tizzy, and liberals even more irritated over the liberal media. It will scare the stupid and the ignorant. And probably worst of all it puts a blight on anything that might resemble a real faith. I sure hope Jesus comes back soon, and I hope he's as violent as these fuckwads suggest, and I hope he delivers one hell of an ass whooping the these moneychangers. God I'm disgusted. Time to go get high.

Right on Scotchyogi! Who do you want to bet is more afraid of Jesus really coming back--us or Robertson, Falwell, Dobson, et. al.? Can you imagine the payback He would visit on their asses for profiting on His name, preaching hate and war?

If only it would come true, it might be worth the 1000 years of tribulation.

Robertson, Falwell, & Dobson are not afraid of Jesus returning at all. Not one tiny bit.

I dunno, Dusty. Seems to me that these money preachers wouldn't like their posh gigs to come to an end. Or is it that you think they could actually be sincere believers instead of cynical con men?

(good setup Olaf!)

they have no fear, because they know Jesus IS NOT COMING!

Therefore, they have no problem consistantly disgracing His every purpose.
