Looking across this room, I see the diversity of our planet, but an identity of interests. None of us wants to turn over the future of mankind to tiny groups of fanatics committing indiscriminate murder and plotting large-scale horror. And so we must direct every resource necessary to defending the peace and freedom of our world, and the safety of the people we serve. My question for Dick, and his deserter boss Chimpie, is this: If you really believe what you said, why don't you all hang yourselves over the front porch of the White House in full view of the pedestrians on Pennsylvania Avenue? Such an act might rub at least a tiny spot of dignity on the otherwise large, malignant stain you have left on our republic.
"Principiis obsta; Finem respice." Olaf Rotkohl thinks that the pursuit of power over others is in itself a corruption, and those who seek such power are fundamentally corrupt. This space is dedicated as part of the constant challenge to those who seek to wield authority over the rest of us, keeping them on notice that they exert power only as it is granted to them by the people.

Question for Chickenhawk Dick Cheney
Dick "I'm so Evil, I make Satan shit his pants" Cheney, fellow draft dodger with Paul Wolfowitz, Tom DeLay, and the other wankers who cheer for others to do their fighting, had the gall to address a Special Forces conference in Tampa last week. Among his remarks:

I read this and snorted coffee through my nose:
"None of us wants to turn over the future of mankind to tiny groups of fanatics committing indiscriminate murder and plotting large-scale horror."
Geez, many of us would say that has already happened. Except these fanatics are old, angry, white men.
Doesn't it amaze you how Chimpie, Uncle Dick, and the gang in general have absolutely NO sense of irony when they say stuff like this? Do they even read these speeches before they deliver them, or are they just so lacking in self-awareness that they cannot see themselves covered in that precise terminology? Or maybe they're just great actors. I dunno.
I've done a lot of reading from those who were inside (O'Neill, Clarke, and Suskind) and I've come to the conclusion that these men are so isolated (free speech zones) from the real world, that they can say these things without any hint of irony. They surround themselves with neocon yes-men and yes-women, their news is filtered, and the citizens they meet are filtered. In other words, they live in a hermetically sealed environment.
The neocon yes-men/women pump PNAC pipe-dreams to these leaders, so when they are confronted with a differing opinion, they are truly shocked and sometimes (especially with Cheney) bite back.
For example, O'Neill relates that W wanted to "get" Iraq IN THE FIRST CABINET MEETING of 2001. This was *months* before the Downing Street Memos made record of "fixing" intelligence.
After the administration started pushing budget deficits, O'Neill confronted Cheney, who shot back, "Reagan proved that deficits don't matter."
Suskind has interviewed various and sundry players both inside and outside the administration. In his article in the NYT Magazine, one of the administration insiders basically made the snide remark about "the reality-based community." In other words, step aside, Goldilocks, let the real men play ball on the delusional field of dreams.
And so, I really do think that this administration is out of touch. Their poll numbers are sinking, but they are pushing ahead with their agenda. Full steam ahead, damned the torpedoes! Who cares if we are blatantly in the pockets of big business? We've got political capital, and we intend to use it.
And, in a touch of irony, let us not forget that being "out of touch" was one of the main complaints that the Founding Fathers had against King George. The Declaration of Independence was one long rant against the earlier George. And let us not forget "taxation without representation," which is also rearing its ugly head again. But this time, it threatens to eliminate the middle class.
